Problem Solving Conversations

A problem solving conversation is a shared discussion between two psychologists and those seeking support (e.g., parent/carers).

Conversations can be offered via video call or face-to-face in central Southampton.

How does it work?

The psychologists will ask questions about:

  • The strengths of the child/situation and what’s going well.
  • The current areas of need or challenge.
  • What you would like the focus of the conversation to be.

The psychologists will then share their understanding of the situation and an action plan is created together.

Please note, we expect our volunteer psychologists to be treated respectfully. If this is not the case the session will be closed.

Why is it helpful?

The reflective space provided through the one hour meeting gives the opportunity to think clearly about the joys and challenges you’re facing without interruptions.

The support from two psychologists enables a greater understanding of the situation and the behaviour of everyone involved. A future focused approach is used so that a positive and possible action plan is created.

How can I access a problem solving conversation?

Select from the options below depending on whether you are self referring for support or are a referral partner.

Will I get a report?

The psychologists will not write a report from the conversation but will support you to create an action plan from the meeting. The action plan is yours to take away; the psychologists will take a photograph of the action plan to be kept securely for two years in line with the charity policy in case you return for future support.
